     Back cement deck at neighbors house. The tree roots were under there and split it in two.   Vern & lucille were without electricity. This was part of the problem. Lines were down all over town.    Community Support Services. This is who I work for. Our building looks like it is not bad, but the structure is not safe. Tornado 5-22-11 The tornado damage was 6 miles long and 3/4 mile wide. Winds were in excess of 200 mph. As of today 5-23 deaths totaled 126, 5,000 people still missing. We lost most of the business on Rangeline Rd. from 7'th street to 32n'd street. It looks like a war zone.     This was in front of a paint st ore. The sign came from 2 blocks away.  This tree was pulled up at Lucille's neighbors house. Lucille stands by the tree. The tornado hit on 5-22 which was Lucille's B-day!!   Lucille's back yard. The wind blew the playhouse and play stuff back and then the tree limb came down, missing it all!!  Not sure what this was in the tree. There were mattress in trees, semi's in trees, blankets, pillows and other stuff in trees. They also found people(deceased) in the trees. This was the worst tornado in the history of the US in 50 years. We were officially declared a disaster area by the President. President Obama will be in Joplin on Sunday!!    Our gym there were only 3 walls standing. We used this building for monthly dances, playing basketball etc.  We lost 6 vans, and the black pickup was our maintenace truck. We also lost some clients and also staff members.       |
       Just one block from Lucille's house I found this car with an umbrella in a car windshield.    Front door, which you can't really see for the trees. This is the top part of a steeple from the church across the corner from my office.  This is the rest of the steeple. This was in a parking lot across the street. There were 2 houses in betwwen  In the background is St Johns Hospital. This was taken from in front of my office I work out of. Before the tornado you couldn't even see the hospital. Houses trees business, all gone!!  |
